Distributed Dynamic Spectrum Allocation for Secondary Users in a Vertical Spectrum Sharing Scenario
نویسندگان
چکیده
In this paper, we study the problem of distributed spectrum allocation under a vertical spectrum sharing scenario in a cognitive radio network. The secondary users share the spectrum licensed to the primary user by observing the activity statistics of the primary users, and regulate their transmission strategy in order to abide by the spectrum sharing etiquette. When the primary user is inactive in a subset of the available frequency bands, from the perspective of the secondary users the problem reduces to a distributed horizontal spectrum sharing. For a specific class of networks, the latter problem is addressed by the recently proposed GADIA algorithm [1]. In this paper, we present analytical and numerical results on the performance of the GADIA algorithm in conjunction with the abovementioned vertical spectrum sharing scenario. These results reveal nearoptimal performance guarantees for the overall vertical spectrum sharing scenario. key words: dynamic spectrum allocation, cognitive radios, vertical spectrum sharing

Cognitive Radio: From Theory to Practical Network Engineering
1.1 Introduction Under utilization of radio spectrum in traditional wireless communications systems [30], along with the increasing spectrum demand from emerging wireless applications, is driving the development of new spectrum allocation policies for wireless communications. These new spectrum allocation policies, which will allow unlicensed users (i.e., secondary users) to access the radio sp...
متن کاملDynamic Channel Sharing in Open-Spectrum Wireless Networks
The current fixed spectrum allocation scheme leads to significant spectrum white spaces. It requires a more effective spectrum allocation and utilization policy, which allows unused parts of spectrum to become available temporarily for commercial purposes so that the scarcity of the spectrum can be largely mitigated. This paper is an early attempt to study such wireless networks with opportunis...
متن کاملDynamic Spectrum Sharing in Cognitive Radio Networks: a Solution based on Multiagent Systems
In modern day wireless networks, spectrum utilization and allocation are static. Generally, static spectrum allocation is not a feasible solution considering the distributed and dynamic nature of wireless devices, thus some alternatives must be ensured in order to allocate spectrum dynamically and to mitigate the current spectrum scarcity. An effective technology to ensure dynamic spectrum usag...
متن کاملGame Theoretic Approaches for Spectrum Sharing in Cognitive Radio Networks: A Survey
Cognitive Radio is gaining popularity and acceptance all over the world as an efficient way to utilise the limited wireless spectrum resources. Out of the many design requirements of Cognitive Radio such as spectrum sensing, spectrum allocation, power control etc., spectrum sharing is one of main challenges to ensure peaceful co-existence of the primary and secondary users. Since multiple users...
متن کاملThe Role of Regulatory in Price Control and Spectrum Allocation to Competing Wireless Access Networks
With the rapid growth of wireless access networks, various providers offer their services using different technologies such as Wi-Fi, Wimax, 3G, 4G and so on. These networks compete for the scarce wireless spectrum. The spectrum is considered to be a scarce resource moderated by the spectrum allocation regulatory (“regulatory” for short) which is the governance body aiming to maximize the socia...
